A NEW LOOK FOR RAIDER SOFTBALL

A letter from Athletic Director Matt Sayre

After winning their third national championship in four years, the time has come to convert the program’s old baseball facility into the softball field of dreams they deserve.

The current field and facilities were constructed by students and coaches on the old baseball field in 2001. The field demands a lot of work, water, and soil amendment to keep it playable. The bleachers, dugouts, bathrooms, ticket booth, entrance, landscaping and other aesthetics are in dire need of a makeover.

Our university and community love this team; what they’ve accomplished competitively, and how they model the true student-athlete with an emphasis on academics, positive culture and gratitude.

Coach Pistole has been honored as the Coach of the Year in the NAIA for the third time, and this year was doubly honored by receiving the national Coach of Character award for her team’s commitment to the NAIA Champions of Character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, and servant leadership.

The program is in the hands of a remarkable head coach and capable assistants, and has been built around young women with incomparable grit and selflessness. They are a gift to SOU and to the people who see them play.

To come to fruition, their new facility will also rely on a selfless spirit. We’re confident we can make it happen, though. And when it does, it will be a gift back to them for many years to come.
