ETHNIC & RACIAL STUDIES PROGRAM
The Ethnic and Racial Studies program at SOU is an interdisciplinary, comparative, and critical study of race, Indigeneity, and ethnicity with a primary focus on the lived experiences, perspectives, theories, and scholarship of and on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), Jewish, and Muslim communities within the United States. Integrating various disciplines, ERS provides a supportive and challenging liberal arts education for all learners that generates scholarship, creativity, and community building. Students learn about themselves and the world through critical thinking, service learning, personal empowerment, and social responsibility.
